Makhadzi gives revellers their money’s worth as People’s Concert shuts down Gabz city

- BY SUN REPORTER

Popular SA artist Makkhadzi left revellers eating from the palm of her hand this past Saturday as she brought the roof down at Molapo Piazza.

The show, dubbed The People’s Concert, was organised by Gilbert Promotions, and the well-known promoter has been praised for pulling off a concert like no other, especially considering that the show had no set budget.

Before the show, Gilbert ‘PP’ Seagile of Gilbert Promotions said Makhadzi charges P200, 000 and above, but they had no funds. “We have relied on the goodwill of sponsors to relief the financial strain,” he noted.

It was a gamble, but it paid off handsomely, and there is no doubt that the organisers and sponsors will be smiling all the way to the bank. The fans especially, have memories of a great night of fun.

The organisers had set a target of 4000 revellers at the venue, which has a capacity for 7300, but the numbers surpassed that - as some people travelled from across Botswana and even from South Africa, to come and celebrate the lifting of restrictions through a night of hard partying and fun. It was clear that most revellers were hungry for a good time, after two years of lockdowns and restrictions. And they came out in high numbers and wiggled and jiggled until the wee hours of the morning. By 8pm, the venue was already filling out and by midnight, it was s packed to the rafters.

The curtain raisers included DJ La Timmy, Eskimos and Team Distant among

others.

By the time Makhadzi took to the stage, revellers had been patiently waiting for a while, and there was a deafening silence when the pop star, who is appreciated and loved all corners, took to the stage energy.

As usual, she did not disappoint fans, as she sang and gyrated in high energy, much to the revellers’ delight. She sang fan favourites and had cheering, singing and dance along in one huge party that many wished they could never end. The singer performed crowd favourites that include Red Card, Mjolo, Khokhova, Murahu and

Sugar Sugar, among many others.

Fans of the artist expressed joy over the concert. Lebo Kedisang said she had travelled from Palapye for the show. “I am a huge fan and knew that the Gabs show would be packed and fun. This is the first time I have gone partying since 2019 and a Makhadzi show was all I needed. Of course there was the issue of petty crime and a few hiccups, but overall it was an amazing show and I got my money’s worth,” she said. Kagiso Kebakile said he enjoyed the performance, especially as it was his first time seeing the artist live. “I always hear her music and enjoy her passion and energy. It was amazing to see her doing the most on stage.” The talented star, who is officially rich, after raking in millions from performance fees and airplay since she hit the big time, is currently enjoy admirable stardom, and is an inspiration not only for her passion for music, but also because she started out performing for free and for loose coins in malls and in front of furniture shops, and steadily worked her way towards global success.. During her performance, she expressed appreciation to Batswana for their continued love and support.
