ON ISAAC KGOSI ATTENDING BNF’S 56TH BIRTHDAY RALLY

Many took to social media this week to share their views after former DIS boss Isaac Kgosi was seen attending a BNF Rally on Sunday amid cheers and ululations from the members. Here are some:

-

NOTHING WRONG WELCOMING MZICO TO BNF

Of Mzico’s attendance of my movement’s celebration at our very public assembly. Nothing wrong welcoming Mzico to our BNF event with genuine smiles. I have also previously attended BDP public gatherings freely and shall do so in the build up to 2024, should BDP then preclude me from doing so? Mzico has every right, rightly or wrongly to hang out at ANY PUBLIC EVENT of his choosing. Mzico can even apply to join the BNF if he so wishes, right of admission or rejection remains BNF’s - never forget this basic fact.

FYI, he was accompanied by a non BNF member Honourable Mephato Reatile, but of course it’s not about factual reporting is it. They closed eyes to his presence - o kabe a kobilwe? I was there, o fetile ha pele game seated at my chair under shade and engaged not in such celebrations but saw nothing wrong with his attendance. Uncertain how ululating his arrival, hugging and kissing him was necessarily merited. Anyone would’ve seen it was Mzico. Media would certainly inform you out there to make what you will of it. He’s a known figure. I can actually understand taking photographs and posting on social media, I’ve seen our comrades meet/bump into BDP members around the country then take photographs together to show that difference in political homes or doing whatever business isn’t to misconstrued as HATRED for or against the BDP/opposition activist. That is a country I’m happy to live within, a tolerant one. [OBAKENG MATLOU]

MASISI ALSO ATTENDED UDC RALLY

What is wrong if Isaac Kgosi attends a BNF rally? Do we know his political affiliation? What if he has always been a BNF member but couldn’t say it openly as a public servant at the time? He is, after all, a citizen of this country and is free to attend any rally, even that of the BDP. We knew Khama was BDP when he attended a BCP rally in Sefhare. He was welcomed with cheers. Masisi also attended a UDC rally in Rasesa, sat between Ndaba Gaolathe and Dumelang Saleshando.

There was nothing wrong even though at the time some UDC supporters wanted him to be kicked out. It is wrong to now want us to bar Kgosi from attending our rally when we don’t even know his party affiliation like we knew with Masisi and Khama. He is still a powerful person and could maybe help the cause. We are a democratic country and we should allow people to freely associate. After all the BNF was celebrating their birthday – it was a public celebration, even Lotty could attend. [THUSO BALANG]

WHITHER THE EVIDENCE AGAINST MZICO?

To see Comrade Duma Boko address a rally that welcomes Isaac Kgosi with open arms could be confusing to the voters. I remember him telling the SABC in an interview that they have a lot of evidence against Kgosi and Ian Khama to jail them as soon as UDC took over power. One now wonders where that evidence is. Or the evidence was cooked as we always say when we now defend Khama and Kgosi? But the evidence Boko talked about was during the time Khama was President and Kgosi a DIS director. We agree politics is a game of numbers and that in politics there are no permanent enemies, but are we not taking this too far? We now accuse Masisi of too much corruption. If for whatever reason he is forced out of the BDP this November and he joins the UDC, do we suddenly forget about the corruption? Anyway, maybe some of us do not understand politics. [PINIH K. TAU]

NO ONE IS POWERFUL, ONLY THE ORGANISATION

Mzico’s story should be a lesson to many people. Sadly for me, the Mzico in my mind is the once-feared and all powerful Mzico who was untouchable. This has to serve as a reminder to many people that, no one is powerful. It is the institutions that we serve which are powerful. Without them, we are equally powerless.[OSSIE MMOLOTSI]

MASISI SHOULD ATTEND OPPOSITION RALLIES

There is nothing wrong with Mzico attending a UDC rally. Even Khama once attended an opposition rally uninvited, when he was President. Whether it was PR or not, that really said a lot about the man. This was at a time when the opposition were gravely critical of him, even accusing him of the murder of a cadre. Why can’t Masisi attend a BPF rally, or event? Masisi should learn from that example. Once in a while, he should attend opposition rallies and events. He is President. He must show himself bigger than BDPOpposition fights. He must show himself bigger than his personal fight with Khama. Likewise, Khama should just rock up at a BDP rally, and sit through it. He has proved he can. That’s how you promote tolerance, and unity in diversity. That’s leadership. We all differ so much because we all love our country so much. Besides, its a free country. Our politics (and indeed our country) can’t be hostage to the Masisi-Khama feud. Nnyaa banna, nna ke a gana. This is our country. The UDC modeled leadership yesterday, in having Mzico at their rally. [KGOSI NGAKAAGAE]

OUR REASONING IS PATHETIC

Ga re itlhaloganye and we now appear desperate. Nna e bile ke tlhabiwa ke kgala. 14 close relatives who in the past had been loyal to the BNF in previous elections decamped to vote BDP ba re they don’t like the association with Khama and the defence of Kgosi. Richard aka Motsabakedi shared the same story about his BNF relatives who also decamped because of this. We also warned against this lack of principle at the time and we were labelled enemies of change. Next thing gatwe elections were rigged when there are many such examples of people who ran away from this circus. We were just in denial yet we knew the truth. Only in the central we benefitted because of the loyalty to someone, which is not there elsewhere in the country. We don’t learn. And our reasoning is so pathetic on our acceptance of boKgosi.
