LADIES NATIONAL NETBALL TEAM IN CAMP
In preparations for the Africa Netball Cup
The Ladies Netball Senior National Team is in the final training camp that will run until 6th November 2021 at the BONA Courts in Gaborone before they head for Namibia on the 7th November.
Fourteen players have been summoned by the national team technical staff led by Head coach, Sithulile Mlotshwa to prepare for the Africa Netball Cup that will be held in Windhoek, Namibia from the 9th 16th November 2021.
The final training camp follows successful selection training camps which were conducted on the 16th October 2021 and 22nd to 24th October 2021.
Speaking in an interview this week, Botswana Netball Association (BONA) Mouthpiece, Mokeresete Mokeresete said everything is going according to plan and the players are responding positively to training.
“The team went into camp on the 28th October and the camp will continue until the 6th November and then depart to Windhoek on the 7th November.”
However, the announcement for the final squad and the send off ceremony will be held this coming Friday at 6pm at the Street of Gold Lodge in Gaborone.
The team will depart for Windhoek on the 7th November 2021 and return back home on the 17th November 2021 after the games have been concluded in Namibia.
Furthermore, the team is trying to prepare for the Africa Netball World Cup qualifiers, so that they can book a sport in the 2023 World Cup to be hosted in South Africa; the team is currently ranked number 27 and wants to improve the rankings as well as to have a solid team in Namibia with the potential to qualify for the 2023 World Cup.
Previously, Mokeresete said that it’s possible for the team to win the tournament or at least finish in the top 3 to improve the rankings. “Right now, we haven’t competed on an international stage, we want our players to have that exposure for the coming two years so that they are sharp and are able to compete,” he said.
The Technical Team is made up of Head Coach, Sithulile Mlotshwa, who is assisted by Coach, Neo Ntwaagae and the Team Manager is Malebogo Mophalane. BONA has entrusted the ladies to drive the team forward and produce instant results within a short space of time, with adequate resources provided to them.
