Following their recent tour to Bulawayo and outing against Tuskers, the Botswana Cricket National Men’s team is now in Kigali to claim a place in the final stages of the T20 Africa Regional Qualifiers.

The team has won their first game against Sierra Leone in outstanding fashion and looks set to keep the momentum going forward in the highly anticipated tournament.

The touring party of sixteen (16) went into the pretravel Bubble at Stay Easy Inn, following the initial Rapid Antigen Tests and their display resonates with their well planned preparations and travel.

The tournament has been hosted by Rwanda Cricket Association and will span across a five (5) week period, with the first stage completed and Uganda making their way through to the last stage.

The qualifiers pathway was divided into two (2) Groups to be played as separate standalone events and the winners from each group would then proceed to play against Kenya and Nigeria, to determine the Africa winners, for the global qualifiers.

Botswana takes on Cameroon on Friday before they lock horns with Mozambique on Saturday, they will finish off their round of fixtures against Tanzania on the last day of the tournament. The winner will then be required to stay back for a further week before the final stage gets underway.

Botswana is currently leading the group with 2 points, following their victory against Sierra Leone and the side led by captain Thabang Motlhanka will be oozing with confidence in the next coming fixtures.

The top team in each group will progress to the Regional Final while Kenya and Nigeria, the two highest ranked teams as of 1 January 2020, progressed directly to the Regional Final.

The tournament is part of a qualification process for the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, expected to be hosted in a date to be announced.
