Women football
“Success can be attributed to cognitive diversity, DTCB deliberately took a decision not to only sponsor women football league but also sponsor grassroots football training programmes in primary schools across all 17 BFA regions. Commencing the season 2022-2023, DTC Botswana will be the league sponsor of women football league and grassroots football training programs amounting to P4 430 000.00.
DTC Botswana is committed to taking a holistic and long term approach in promoting gender parity and diversity within its business and the nation of Botswana,” Serumula announced.
Member of Parliament for Mogoditshane and Honourable Minister of Youth Empowerment Sport and Culture Development, Tumiso Rakgare, who graced the event, expressed his gratitude towards the noble gesture shown by DTCB to local football.
“DTCB consciously departed from tradition and chose a well deserving constituency, that of women football. Women throughout the world, including in Africa need a fair chance in sport.
They need to be developed and encouraged to run with their dreams and today DTCB is doing exactly that by supporting the development agenda of women’s football.
DTCB like any other entity has been affected by the terrible pandemic, Covid-19 virus. However, you still found it befitting to use the meagre resources you have to ensure that Women’s Football gets the sponsorship to start their league. For that, we would like to thank you once again for this magnanimous gesture,” Rakgare stated.
BFA President Maclean Letshwiti said the partnership with DTCB will enable BFA to partake in an aggressive women development programme.
“We shall prioritize women football, not only its development but taking on board more partners, particularly in our regional structures, in order that we can sustain our development strategies and thereby reach our intended milestones.
I hope through this sponsorship, the BFA will be able to partake on an aggressive programme of football development in Botswana, from grassroots level to the elite. We want to have a truly professional women football league,” Letshwiti said.
The BFA president further emphasized that, “any nation that does not invest in its youth has no future.” He explained that when diamonds are no more, the current investment made on youth development will be a perfect replacement.
Women football found its first sponsor in AT & T Monnakgotla, who sponsored from 2010 until 2013.
In 2019, BFA and FIFA held a week-long strategic meeting with emphasis geared towards moving women football forward, through developing a strategy and a structure that will allow full activation of the women’s game.
