Budding Motswako rapper Terrence Motlhalefi, who goes by stage nameTeachere, strives to make strides in the Motswako rap industry.

The Molepolole based rapper made a breakthrough into the music industry with the release of a single titled, Ke kgathetse, and the positive response motivated him to continue working harder.

He told Vibe that music makes him tick, and he was inspired by local music artists to share his passion and talent.

“I was inspired by popular artist ATI to do music and I started in 2019 where I recorded a song titled Ke Kgathetse, it was a hit and loved by many people, that song saw my name rise and it instantly hit me that I might actually have potential and passionate about music,” he said.

Teachere said he decided to do rap after realising that his fans are enjoying music sang in Setswana. Mainly because they could hear, understand the lyrics and meaning behind his song making it easy for them to sing along and even throw in a few dance moves.

Though he is still fresh in the music industry, he is happy and convinced that things are looking up for him. He has performed on local television talent show Mokaragana twice and also made an appearance on Pula Power, which he conceded is a promising start.

“I am surely taking baby steps and I want to reach great heights, regardless of the challenges that I face. I will never give up on my dreams, I will hold on until I make it,” he said.

The rapper added that he recently wrapped up working on a song that he did in honour of the late Thuto Ramaphaleng, better known as Dramaboi, who passed on last month.

“I worked on the song to honour him because he was a fellow music artist and he was an inspirational rapper. I felt the need to pay homage to him through song and also use the song to send comfort and healing to his devastated fans, family and friends.”
