The family of Sophie Molebatsi (56), who went missing a month ago is devastated that their mother is no more. The police have announced that they found Molebatsi’s lifeless body at Ga Modubu lands in the outskirts of Gaborone last week.

Investigations of what led to her death are still on going.

Speaking to The Midweek Sun on Tuesday, Molebatsi’s son, Kabo Samuel said funeral arrangements are underway. However, they have not received Molebatsi’s body from the police. “They are still investigating and I believe the burial ceremony will be held in Tonota,” he said. According to Samuel, his mother Molebatsi was last seen at Gamodubu where she had gone to seek prayers from her pastors at Gospel God Church Africa. At the time of her disappearance, she had been accommodated at the place for months and was set to return to her home in Shashe Mooke village. On the day his mother disappeared, they searched around the area only to find clothes that she was wearing that day dumped.

They suspected that wherever she was, she was only covered in a cloth that she used as a body wrap and was walking barefoot. He added that one man in Gamodubu had told them that Molebatsi came to his house asking for drinking water but because of water shortage in the area, he was unable to help her.

Molebatsi continued with her journey, while the man could not suspect anything offish about her.

“Her footprints were spotted near water streams around the area but the footprints have not led us anywhere. They somehow became invisible making the tracking mission impossible,” Samuel shared. He told this publication that some time ago his mother was declared mentally unwell, and that they thought she had recovered and would be returning home at the soonest. “She would at times not speak to anyone. She chooses who to speak to or just becomes forgetful. My relatives say it was something she had lived with all her life but we have never really noticed anything because she has been nothing but a loving mother to us. Speaking on behalf of Gospel God Church Africa, Molebatsi’s brother Silas Samson, who is also a prophet at the church, had before knowing her sister was dead said they wondered what could have happened to his sister to disappear without saying anything to anyone.
