Moswaane accused of abandoning late son’s children

- BY LAME CHABA Moswaane

Member of Parliament for Francistown West, Ignitious Moswaane has been accused of turned his back on his late son’s children, barely a year after his passing due to Covid-19 last year on March 19th.

Following the death of Kagiso Moswaane, Moswaane promised that he would ensure that his son’s children are taken care of.

It has since emerged that Moswaane changed the title deed of his son’s Tlokweng plot number 8884, following a family resolution. All this happened behind Kgomotso Tshetlho’s back, who was Kagiso’s live-in girlfriend with whom she has two children, boy and girl. In an interview with The Midweek Sun, Tshetlho’s mother, Lillian Griesmeir said her daughter discovered at the Deeds office in Gaborone that the residential plot no longer belonged to the late Kagiso but rather his father, Moswaane. “My daughter collapsed after hearing confirmation that the plot no longer belonged to the late Kagiso with whom she acquired the house with,” said Griesmeir. Griesmeir highlighted that upon confirmation regarding the title deed, she approached lawyers for an urgent application so that her daughter could be assisted accordingly. Groesmeir’s gripe is that her daughter had contributed to the purchasing of the residential plot, as well as the furniture. She indicated that, according to the Deeds office Moswaane said his son Kagiso did not have any children. This has come as a shock to her and Tshetlho as Moswaane vowed that he would take care of his son’s children after burial. Further promising that he would open a trust that will assist the children in future. Griesmeir said since Kagiso’s burial, Moswaane only assists children by sending amounts of about P200 or P300 for both children after three to four months, noting that it is never enough. “Currently I am the one taking care of these children, I took the older child to preschool and I pay for everything. I do a lot in taking care of these kids,” said Griesmer. When reached for comment, Tshetlho said she was not in a state to comment on the matter, as she is still hurting. Moswaane on the other hand could not respond to The Midweek Sun enquiries after numerous efforts.
