Local footballers discover Botola Pro league
This might possibly be the era for Botswana football players, especially those in their prime to transform their careers in the Moroccan Botola Pro League.
In an interview this week former Gilport Lions Assistant coach, Mopholosi Reaitsanye pointed to the signings of compatriots Tumisang ‘Teenage’ Orebonye, Kabelo ‘Skhebo’ Seakanyeng and Mothusi Cooper and said they could be the start of a new trend for Botswana players in the league.
“I believe the Botola Pro League is a very competitive league; I have had the opportunity to watch a few games whenever Teenage and Skhebo’s team plays. It’s a league that has good competition.”
Moreover, Reaitsanye added that the league is one of the biggest sponsored leagues in Africa.
“Our players should really strive to play there. Kabelo and Tumisang are good ambassadors so far, they have done well which might also make other clubs turn their heads and look for players in Botswana.”
He is also optimistic that Mothusi Cooper, who recently signed with MC Oudja in the same league will hit the ground running. “I also hope that Cooper establishes himself also. More players outside will benefit our national team,” he added.
Orebonye and Seakanyeng have had the time of their lives playing in Morocco, they helped their team OC Khoirigba promote to the top tier league and maintaining its position.
“Our players settled in well; they are key players in their clubs, we need more, more in every department. I believe the market is open. To get our players in bigger leagues, we really need our national team to do well in continental football, we need clubs competing in CAF to do well. It will then show that our boys can really compete and deliver in the big stages.”
