- BY ISAAC PHEKO

A professional road cycle racing team from neighbouring South Africa is expected to participate in the 150 km ride for charity this coming Saturday in the southern part of Botswana. The Aluwani racing team, sponsored by Aluwani Fund Managers is expected to be joined by up and coming competitive cyclists from event partners, Tsela Riders in the long-distance race. The long route is expected to go through the Southern part of Botswana, starting from the Aluwani office in Gaborone through Boatle to Mankgodi, Moshupa before coming back to Gaborone.

In an interview with Sun Sports this week, the Tsela Rider chairman, Ofentse Mabote, the ride dubbed Tour de Front Line will raise money for front liners that have shown bravery and strength through the covid -19 pandemic in the past few years.

“These are groups of riders who came together during the pandemic to help charities to manage through the crisis.”

Mabote further explained that the Aluwani team has been riding for charity in South Africa and have now expanded the event into Botswana, Lesotho and Eswatini for the first time. “At Tsela Riders, we have five up and coming cyclist who will be riding with the professional Aluwani team but they will be moving at their own pace. We hope that the young riders from Tsela will be able to gain the knowledge imparted by pros.”

Mabote further explained that the event held this year will be a precursor for the main event scheduled for next year. These guys help charities so the cyclist who want to participate in the ride usually pay per kilometre but we will not be doing that this year since it’s an introductory event which was made in short notice. Aluwani is an asset management company that has recently set up in Botswana.
