DAMODAR TO CHAIR AFRICA CRICKET ASSOCIATION
Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) Vice Chairman Sumod Damodar will ascend to the apex position of African Cricket Association (ACA) at the upcoming Annual General Meeting of the association on the 26th of March 2022.
Sumod, following a submission of candidate names for the post, stood unopposed in the position of ACA chairman and will take up the role for the next two years, taking over from Kenya’s Jackie Jan Mohammed.
Damodar expressed his gratitude to serve the continent and said he will do his best to promote the development of cricket in Africa.
“I feel privileged, I feel honored and I am blessed to be able to serve in three capacities; serving as the BCA Vice Chairman, ICC as the international representative for 93 association member countries as the chief executive committee and the global development committee. Now I’m going to serve and head the continental body (ACA). I have the privilege and distinctive honour to persevere in all these three (3) levels.”
Botswana has in recent years had leaders in top African sport association.

Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Damodar has lauded the influence of the local administrators and said their involvement with continental bodies will further enhance the development of local sport.
“For me it means that Botswana is showing some strength in leadership, and people around the continent have confidence to give us the chance to steer the ship of continental organs. As far as I’m concerned as an individual, I have a moral obligation to do everything possible for cricket within the continent and in the country,” Damodar stated.
Sumod, is a member of the Botswana cricket team, and will be the first person from Botswana to chair the continental cricket committee.
He has been the Secretary of Fixtures and Publicity of the Botswana Cricket Association since 1998.
