FOWLER ON A RESCUE MISSION

Hopes to save Tlokweng Red Sparks from relegation

-

Following the appointment of Red Sparks Head Coach, Omphemetse ‘Fowler’ Setswe in mid- January, things have changed for the better and the team that was once hell bent to relegate from the Debswana First Division South (DFDS) is now on the cusp of survival.

Setswe joins Red Sparks FC on a six months contract, with an option to renew. So far the coach looks more focused on his course and has instilled a fighting spirit in the entire squad.

“So far, so good, we are trying to survive as a team and things are looking good for us and we are confident we can turn things around. I have lost to Mochudi Centre Chiefs, Black Forest and Santos, but we are not giving up, it’s a project.”

Fowler says he adopted a team that was still not eager to fight for a place in the league. “I found the team without any fighting spirit, but they have now adapted, we are a better side and we can compete; we have lost games we could have won but we keep on fighting,” he said.

With just 7 games remaining in the DFDS, Setswe says he is not worried about the opponents he is to face. “Anything is possible, I am an experienced coach, I have instilled the fighting spirit and the boys play without any fear; we look better and we are managing our games very well.”

The team is hanging by a thread, sitting on position 11, just second from the bottom. They have accumulated 13 points. Above them is Mochudi Rovers and Santos who have both accumulated 15 points respectively, Taung Young Strikers are on 16 points.

“We are hopeful, it’s between life and death but with our performances, I am certain we have what it takes to keep the fire burning and bring the fight to our opponents; they are under pressure.”

Setswe was recently with Mogoditshane Fighters SC, where he served as an Assistant Coach. In

2018, he was the Head Coach of Red Sparks FC and helped them gain promotion from SERFA Division 1 to DFDSL. He holds a CAF B License amongst his many qualifications.
