JWANENG WINE EXPERIENCE ENTHRALLS LIFESTYLE ENTHUSIASTS

- KELETSO THOBEGA

Scores of lifestyle enthusiasts thronged the Jwaneng Wine Festival held at the town’s rugby field, and organised by Cresta Hotels.

The event made a grand comeback after a two-year break.

The well-attended shebang attracted businesspeople, corporates, influencers, socialites and ordinary fun lovers ,who enjoyed mingling and networking in between good music, food, drinks and socialising.

Barloworld had vehicles on show, for those who like rides to check out and test drive their favourite vehicle makes from

Mazda,Volvo and VW among others. Those with an appetite for the golden waters were spoilt for choice as they could quench their adult thirst, with an array of drinks that flowed like the river Nile: beer, cider, champagne and ofcourse, wine, were in abundance.

Benju Wines, Distell and Fine Brands were there to cater to clients who tasted and drank wines from Lutzville, Nederburg, Fat Bastard, Kanopkp and Kathiku, among others.

Some revellers even bought a few bottles at reasonable prices. Mellow and dry red wines proved to be a hit among wine lovers, who enjoyed their tipple because apart from a little high,”wine is good for the heart,” and its little wonder that Jesus turned water to wine for his followers!

The fashion was on point as many came dressed to the nines, to honour the vintage theme.

The food was even more delectable: compliments to the Cresta chefs. Throughout the evening, attendees were treated to divine food.

Those in VIP were treated to pap, rice, chicken, beef, ribs and an array of fish and salads. I am not usually a fan of fish but I enjoyed the hake and sushi, combined with my favourite treat, black olives and gherkins, which gave me a memorable ‘food-gasm.’

In between drinks, there were offerings of a variety of cheese platters, courtesty of Kefallos and Parmalat.

Managing director of Cresta Marakanelo Hotels, Mokwena Morulane, said the idea of the event was to bring life to the usually quiet mining town.

“We wanted to bring fun to smaller communities, and this instance, Jwaneng, because most people view the town as a place of work only, and often travel to Gabs and other places for fun - so we decided to bring the fun here.

We wanted to cater to people who pay to have a good time, and offer them an experience that is upmarket and relaxing. Such an event is not only a benefit to Cresta Hotel but also the local community who enjoy an economy boost,” he said.

Revellers were treated to great performances by Nnunu Ramogotsi-Neil,Khoisan and Motlha among others, who gave sterling performances.

The DJs on the line-up uncluded DJ Doveboy,Tit &McD,Ancestral Rituals and Boogie Sid, who had revellers eating from the palm of his hand. DJ Boogie Sid proved that he has the Midas touch on the decks as he churned hit after hit, forcing revellers to dance, some even going on all fours, high from the wine and music.

His music selection was on point -from kwasa kwasa, hiphop and R&B. DJ Boogie Sid rounded up his set with golden classics that took revellers down memory lane such as the late Bujo Mujo’s Summer Rain that can make anyone ‘shake what their mama gave them’ to DJ Sbu’s Remember when it rained, which ironically, played when drops of rain pelted lightly.

He had reveller going crazy when he played Makhadzi’s hit song, Shibuya, and many including yours truly, jiggled and wiggled, having forgotten that gravity has taken over, waists have increased, girths have ballooned and three left feet have developed... but hey, when it comes to dancing, the aim is not to sweat!

The hard partying went on until around 1AM,when revellers were forced to call it a night because of the rain.
