Rock those funky edges - care for your hairline

-

Areceding hairline or thinning hairline, is every woman’s worst nightmare because it just ruins your look and limits the diversity of hairstyles that you can rock. Nowadays we braid our hair, wear wigs etc, which all put pressure on the hairline.

And while recovering the hairline can be a few weeks’ mission, sometimes you just have to rock your edges proudly.

Gone are those days of covering a thinning hairline, or cutting your hair when the hairline starts receding, as times have changed and hair trends allow for women to work magic on that same receding hairline. Ofcourse there is a difference between ‘baby hair’ and ‘thinning hair’ but who cares? You can create your own ‘baby hair’ a

Ways to correct a thinning hairline:

**Avoid too much plaiting and styling as it puts pressure on the hairline and lead to hair loss.

**Eat foods that are high in iron, protein, Omega 3,Vitamin C and potassium.

**Use hair food and moisturisers that nourish the hair and keeps it wholesome. Also wash your hair and condition it often to remove residue of products and keep it clean.

**Include castor oil in your hair routine (Jamaican castor oil specifically) for restoring damaged edges. A weekly scalp massage (depending on the severity of your need for edge regrowth) deep temple massage with the oil will improve circulation and stimulation of the hair follicle.

To get the perfect edges, consider the below tips:

1. Slick and separate edges using a comb --Use a comb to comb these hairs out and then slick them down in the direction you’d like to style them. Make sure you use a comb that won’t snag on the hairs and cause further damage and use water if needed.

2. Swoop and create shapes using the natural boar bristles

--Creating the shape of your swoops should be natural to your hairline and you should use the natural bristles on an edge brush. While creating the shape, use an edge control of your choice to mold the hair into the swooping shape. Choosing between a lighter or heavier edge control is solely based on the texture of your hair. It is a good idea to soften the hair, for easier edge control because coarse hair is more difficult to control.

3. Define using the pointed tip for finishing details

--For finishing touches, take the pointed tip of your preferred hair tool and go over the molding to define the shape. Using the pointed tip will not interfere with the shape you’re created with the brush bristles and the fineness of the tip allows you to add and define swoops a little more.Add a bit of gel to the tip if necessary, but this step can be done with or without it.

4. Use hairspray for an indefinite hold

This can be applied directly on the tool you’re using or directly on the hair, but use it lightly. For best hold, use a freeze or spritz spray, which will hold down fly-away hairs and give your hair a sleek appearance. Additional reporting: TeenVogue
