BLOODY WEEKEND

Man killed and dumped by the roadside

- BY NEO KOLANTSHO

The lifeless body of a 34-year-old man was found dumped near Minestone houses in Matabi ward, Mmadinare, this past weekend. Speaking to The Midweek Sun this week, Senior Superintendent Meshack Pulenyane of Selibe Phikwe Police said the man was stabbed on his left breast and left for dead just by the roadside. A passer-by alerted the police and upon arrival at the scene, they took the man to the hospital where he was certified dead. To date, the police have not made arrests. “The matter is still under investigation, we have not arrested anyone yet and appeal to members of the public to help us,” Pulenyane said, adding that they have since identified the man and his family.

“All that we have gathered to this end is that he had told his mother that he was leaving for Phikwe. He left home around 1900hrs only to be found dead an hour later by the roadside,” he said, expressing optimism that the culprits will soon be caught. The police boss added that Mmadinare is being terrorised by gangs made up of young people. “Groups of young people are going around Mmadinare and doing the unthinkable. They steal and stab people with knives. We appeal to parents to speak out. There are instances where we recover stolen properties in homes, some parents just keep quiet when they see their kids bringing home television sets and other things while knowing well that their children are unemployed.”

“The village has been giving us a headache lately, this is the second murder case in my policing area this year. The first was also in Mmadinare, where a man killed his girlfriend. There is something seriously wrong with Mmadinare,” said Pulenyane.

Still in Mmadinare, a 66-year-old granny was shocked to the core when she woke up to an empty kraal on Saturday. All 14 of her goats disappeared without a trace. “She left them in the kraal the previous day as usual, only to find them gone the next day. She does know who took them and why. There were visible footprints outside the kraal suggesting that the livestock was deliberately let out and taken away,” he said.
