Pro wrestlers turn up for auditions

Up to 25 individuals show interest in BWF

- BY SUN REPORTER

The Professional Wrestling auditions hosted this past weekend at Mogoditshane village saw 25 hopeful wrestlers turn up and manage to qualify for intense training, which is expected to last them two months.

According to Professional Wrestling Botswana (BWF), President Moagi Sharp, the wrestlers will now go over an intense two months training before they could kick start their calendar of events for the year. “I was really impressed with what I saw, the wrestlers were so determined and focused on the activities of the day, they showed keen interest and I can only overemphasize my delight with how things went down,” Sharp said. Wrestlers were trained on several aspects of wrestling, which included starting position, movements and Olympic wrestling basics. “If you train wrestlers on the basics of Olympic wrestling you have then covered a lot of ground in professional wrestling,” he added. “We also tested their fitness levels to see if they can be able to meet the fitness demands and avoid injuries in the sport.”

From here, the wrestlers will go over an intensified 2 months training before the Power Rumble Show, Pro Wrestling Show and Claw Hammer.

The first show will be hosted at Lobatse Sports Festival on July 15th for the very first time in local sports history and Sharp is confident that the wrestlers will impress. Moreover, Sharp said there will be a show for ladies titled, Next Wrestling Entertainment to influence more women to join the sport since only five ladies turned up for the auditions. He further urged companies to join hands with them and sponsor their shows to grow the sport and create employment for the youth as well as to curb societal ills, by taking the youth off the streets.
