Uncle Waffles sizzles Gabs audiences

- SUN REPORTER

Temperatures were soaring this past weekend as popular South African DJ, Uncle Waffles, rocked two shows in Gabs, at Molapo Piazza and Primmi.

The trending 22-year-old hottie of the entertainment scene is enjoying her moment of glory, after Drake tweeted praise for her talent. That is enough for everyone to want a piece of her and she has been raking in the moola through endless shows and appearances. The electric firebrand DJ, who has brought a refreshing energy to the music scene with her beauty, free spirited vibe and skill on the decks, as usual left fun lovers eating from the palm of her hand with her mix of amapiano sounds. There is no doubt that Uncle Waffles has been instrumental to the growth of amapiano, since she shot to fame a year ago when a video of her performing to a crazed out crowd went viral, hitting 4.5 million views. Uncle Waffles has in interviews reiterated that she is “focused on building a brand and although she sometimes feels ‘awkward’ she is intent on doing things her own way.” And one instance is her name, which has caused “confusion.” The young lady is undoubtedly feminist, and trying to make waves in a male-dominated landscape, she said she intentionally came up with a name that would set tongues wagging, but also asserted her disregard for gender dynamics, in a world that is still hung up on sexism and gender rooted definitions; she is basically saying, girls got the talent and magic too!

Perhaps what is most inspiring about her is that she has used her beauty, bewitching aura and talent on the decks to open doors for her. Uncle Waffles, whose real name is Lungilihle Zwane, was born and raised in Eswatini by he grandmother, and

was only reunited with her parents when she was older. But that never came between her and her dreams as she vowed to work hard to achieve her goals from a young age. Look at her now... getting paid to have fun. Go figure!
