The Midweek Sun

COMBAT DRY SKIN THIS WINTER

- **Additional reporting by Buzzmode.com

Winter is already here and as we all know, the cold weather can wreck havoc on the skin if you don’t give it enough care, leaving it dull, dry and flaky. Skin is often at its worst in winter and we give you tips to keep it balanced and supple, with enough moisture.

These tips apply to all skin types.

1. Wash and moisturise your skin twice a day. Using a gentle cleansing face cream or face wash removes impurities and unclogs the pores. Moisturizing the skin leaves it plump and supple, and feeds it the necessary nutrients. In winter opt for products with natural products such as aloe, vitamin c, jasmine, cucumber and humuctents such as glycerine. Ensure that the products you use for the face and body are separate but serve the same function of cleansing and moisturizing the skin.

2. Keep showers short because as tempting as it might be to take hot showers twice a day, the hot water can rip the skin of nutrients. Also ensure that you moisturise the skin when it is still slightly damp so that the products are easily absorbed into the skin.

3. Exfoliate at least once a week. It helps get rid of dead skin cells, leaving your skin smoother and more supple. When the skin is exfoliated it makes it easier for you to add moisture to the skin.

4. Include serum in your skincare routine. It is hydrating and gives the skin an extra boost; improving your skin’s texture and acting as a defense for your skin. *

5. Don’t forget sunscreen. We might think we do not need it but the sun’s rays are still harsh in winter and can cause harm to the skin, causing discoloration, uneven skin tone and dark patched. Use a small amount on the face, neck, arms and hands before applying your moisturiser.

6. Increase your intake of fruits and vegetables, and drink a lot of water. A healthy diet as a plethora of benefits for your skin and water not only improves your bodily functions but also cleans out the system and flushes toxins from the skin. If you can’t meet all the required dietary and nutritional requirements, consider taking a supplement or two.
