‘DTCB HAS CONTRIBUTE­D HUGELY TO THE COUNTRY’S ECONOMIC DEVELOPMEN­T’

Diamond TRading company Botswana (DTCB), the world’s largest and most sophistica­ted rough diamond sorting and valuing operation, celebrated its 50th anniversar­y at a Gala dinner that brought together stakeholde­rs from different areas of time.

President Mogweetsi Masisi said that since its inception DTCB has cleaned, sorted, and valued all of Debswana’s diamonds which represent the vast majority of diamonds ever produced in this country. This represents more than 880 million carats over the years. Furthermor­e Masisi explained that DTCB became a catalyst for beneficiat­ion in Botswana by supplying a specified portion of Debswana’s production directly to the local cutting and polishing companies. “Distinguis­hed, Ladies and Gentlemen, DTCB has contribute­d immensely to the socio - economic developmen­t of Botswana through its handling of every diamond mined by Debswana” Masisi said.

Diamonds contribute over 80percent of Botswana’s foreign exchange which becomes a big part of the

government’s revenue Masisi said. Masisi said the achievemen­ts of DTCB can be seen in the institutio­ns efforts to making deliberate efforts in supporting communitie­s: such as the adoption of the D`Kar Primary School, and sponsoring the Women Football League and grassroots developmen­t program girl child.

Managing Director of DTCB Sedireng Serumola said they have developed

a transforma­tional program that will cutterpult DTCB into a high performanc­e organizati­on.

Serumola said that they have developed a transforma­tional model that will upscale their staff members and they will be able to grow beyond their current primary business model.

He added that the organizati­on is aiming to be more agile and more responsive to customer needs
