HYPOCRITES...

his party from his tribe and the nation at large. “What is he running away from? He should come back,” said Molefhabangwe, who does not have kind words for government either. “I am worried that government is now using state machinery for its political battles with Khama,” he said. For his part, former president of the now defunct MELS party, Themba Joina is also disappointed that government finds nothing wrong with using the police, DIS and other agents of government. Joina is concerned that if not addressed, the situation between government and Bangwato may soon become a threat to national unity and peace. “The BDP is being hypocritical because they have always talked partisan politics at the kgotla. There is nothing wrong with what Bangwato are doing using the kgotla for their meetings. There is nothing new about that either. “Dikgosi should be respected because they also played a role in the development of this country including the securing of protection from the British and the gaining of independence later,” Joina said, adding that the overreaction of the government in barring Bangwato of Serowe from their Kgotla is because their allegiance is no longer with the BDP. “This thing should not be allowed to escalate further. Both parties must accept there is a problem which they are unable to resolve hence engage a third party,” Professor Monageng Mogalakwe said, further stressing the point that for that to happen, both parties should be committed to the resolution of the dispute. “It is also possible that the two parties may want to perpetuate the dispute with the hope of winning the sympathy contest,” he concluded.
