Expressing the art in fashion

- SUN REPORTER

Kutlo Design’s defines fashion as an undying art, and believes that without art, there would be no fashion. Their business is focused on adorning women in apparel that turns heads.

CEO and Founder of Kutlo Design’s, Kutlo Mokuduba says their fashion house based in Tlokweng, breathes nothing but elegance when it comes to ladies wear.

“I am not into the fashion industry by coincidence but I believe that this is what I was born for and I would die for. I’m just that passionate about designing,” she told Vibe.

She recalls that as a little girl she would tear off her own clothes trying to transform them into something new. This attracted a lot of scolding and sometimes even a spank from her parents, who at the time, believed she was just naughty. However,

she remains thankful for these early trainings. “This has vastly contributed to my existence as Kutlo Design’s because I already had a background of what to do in order to make fashionable designs that I do today,” she said. She is proud about her fashion line, which specialises on ladies wear. She is always booked for wedding attires and parties. She produces colorful, casual and dramatic designs, bridal shower wear and general street wear among other designs. She officially joined the fashion industry around 2018, and perfected her craft by learning from other renowned fashion designers. “I started off by learning the real art of fashion designing and sewing from other fashion designers. From there, I went on to work for a couple of fashion designers including: Funky Rest, Butterfly Couture, Xplosion Designs, True bell and Poppy.

This has exposed her to a whole new world of fashion that has taught her that fashion is art. “I have come to believe that fashion is art, fashion is beauty, fashion is modeling and without art there’s no fashion, and without modeling there’s no fashion,” said Mokuduba, reiterating that when she designs, she makes sure that her work is outstanding. “I’m content about the feedback I’m getting from people, as they are getting to know and recognize Kutlo Design’s each day, and I’m still hoping for the best” she said.

She is of the view that the Botswana fashion industry has great potential to make significant contribution to the country’s economy. “This is one of the sectors that could even create employment for the youth,” she said, adding that this is all she wishes for, is for her brand to be internationally recognized one day.
