DMSS Gators host swimming gala
Some of the best local and regional swimmers are expected to dive into the biggest swimming event of the year later this month. DMSS Gators Swimming Club returns with their 4th annual gala event, and it is expected to be a giant wave-generating extravaganza. From the 13th to the 16th of April 2023, the University of Botswana Aquatic Centre will be home to over 250 swimmers from Zimbabwe and nine different clubs from all over Botswana. But this year’s gala isn’t just about glory, bragging rights and medals. The DMSS Gators are taking things up a notch by inviting two qualified officials from South Africa to run a workshop and oversee the competition. As one of the best and biggest swimming clubs in the country, DMSS Gators are expected to raise the bar and ensure that local swimming competitions are held to a high international standard. Through a statement this week, Vice Chairman Thobo Moleko said:
“We strongly believe in training and ensuring our competitions are running at a high international standard. This is one of many initiatives we are rolling out to contribute to the sport for long-term growth.” Of course, the gala isn’t just for seasoned swimmers. It’s also the perfect platform for newcomers to dive in and discover the joy of swimming. And thanks to the Botswana Swimming Sports Association’s support, competition officials will receive the muchneeded training. According to the press statement, the swimming gala is all part of the DMSS Gators’ commitment to making sure that the swimming community in Botswana thrives.
The event will also highlight the perks of swimming itself, as Coach Thobo highlighted that swimming teaches teamwork, communication, and leadership, while also improving memory function and thinking skills.
The swimming gala is made possible with the support from DMSS Gators’ sponsors and partners, which include Bokomo, Emergency Assist, Showgroup Productions, and several others hoping to make the event a splash.
