Orange Botswana

-

There has been concerns by some sport leaders across the globe that football could potentially be used as a tool to enable acts of money laundering—a subject that was also discussed last year in Botswana Parliament. It is reported that at least P350 000 is spent on the welfare of KRFA referees for a full football season but the concern has been that the money is normally given to the officials through a physical money exchange which makes it difficult for auditors and the KRFA office to account.

Therefore, Orange Money will now be used to pay referees and or any other clients in business with the regional association.

Mafuta could not be drawn to shed some light on the matter but could only reiterate his commitment to improve the standards of football in the region.

“We have a lot of engagement with various businesses and individuals to try and grow the outlook of football in our region, I’ll not comment on the engagements with Orange Botswana but I can assure you we are working hard to strike partnerships which can bring about growth in our region—once everything has been finalized, we will communicate with the public as usual,” Mafuta responded. This publication has been reliably informed that the deal with Orange Botswana is very much on the cards. Furthermore, it has also emerged that the KRFA leadership has engaged with the Botswana Football Association (BFA) in an effort to lure one of the mobile network giants to the region.

It remains to be seen if the move will materialize as a deal with Orange Botswana is almost sealed, but a nondisclosure clause in the contract could possibly leave the door open for another mobile business to come on board.

In other developments in the region, a BFA C coaching course is underway in Molepolole and has attracted over 35 coaches from the region and former veteran striker, Joel Mogorosi is amongst the attendees.

Last year, Mafuta cautioned that at the end of his tenure, all the head coaches taking charge of the teams in the region must have at least a BFA C license certificate to sit on the touchline as an effort to develop the game in the region.
