Dow’s resignation

-

“The relationship between the BDP and myself has broken down irretrievably, therefore marks the end of my membership of the BDP,” Dow stated.

She said there is a trust deficit borne from a growing culture of lying, fabricating and generally taking the view that the end justifies the means within Botswana.

“All of us are tired of being silent and afraid,” Dow said. She stated that the country’s democracy and economy are under siege because men and women are too silent to call out the things that are wrong within the nation. “Reclaim your kgotla as a place of true debate not a place for choreographed praise poems, begging for handouts and receiving yet another unconvincing explanation as to why your school is still in a sorry state.” Dow is calling upon the nation to stand up against the injustices done in the country, reminding people that inaction is a form of death.

She claimed that she has not talked to the President and the Vice President in over a year and she has not informed them about her decision to leave the party. She however, said she would continue to serve in parliament as a specially-elected member of parliament but will not join any other political party.

For the longest time, speculation has been rife that Dow was among some BDP Members of Parliament working as a faction that is at loggerheads with the leadership of the party. At the press conference where she announced her resignation from the BDP, she refused to respond to the issue of her court case with Botho Seboko whom she alleges is one of the faces behind the renowned facebook pseudo trading by the name France Museveni. Museveni for the longest time had been writing things about Dow, including allegations that Dow has been taking instructions from former President Ian Khama to work against the current leadership of the BDP. Museveni even stated in one of his old posts that it was only a matter of time before Dow resigned from the BDP along with other party Members of Parliament said to be out of favour with the party leadership. Dow did not take kindly to the public attacks, and it was against the posts by Museveni that she made a bold claim that Seboko as a DIS employee, was one of the people manning the France Museveni account. Seboko then took the matter to court, seeking that Dow desists from cyberbullying him by falsely associating him with Museveni.
