Semi Finals for Cricket tourney this weekend

The Security Services Men’s T20 Cricket Tournament will continue over the weekend in Francistow­n as teams battle for a spot in the finals.

The semi-final games are expected to be played at FSRC Grounds with teams geared up for the fixtures of the spectacle following the first round of fixtures last week.

The finals will be played on the weekend of May 28 with the semifinal winners battling it out in the final for the prestigiou­s trophy.

Speaking in an interview, Botswana Cricket Associatio­n (BCA) Vice Chairman, Sumod Damodar said the total sponsors cost is about P50 000 for this tournament.

He added that Security Services have been supporting the tournament over the years and they hope to continue with them. “They were sponsoring every year before Covid -19 and hopefully, they will continue this tournament every year,” he said.

“This year we have a team of high school students mostly and we have deployed a Motswana to groom them for the future of our cricket. There are seven teams, five from Francistow­n, one from Selibe Phikwe and one from Palapye.

He added that in future, they seek to expand the tournament and host it in Gaborone.

Meanwhile, a cup will be presented to winners of the tournament, runners up and awards for best batsman, best bowler, best fielder and a medal for each player in the winning team and runners up team.
