Chadibe United eyes Premier League

- BY SUN REPORTER

The Debswana First Division North League (DFDNL) side, Chadibe United are hopeful of victory in their quest to join the elite league.

The Chadibe based team finished the league as runners up this season. They will be in the play offs against the marauding VTM in a two legged game, with both teams

having the advantage to play at home and away as they battle for a spot in the top tier.

Speaking in an interview this week, Chadibe United Secretary General, Maud Mpungwa said they have been very consistent this season and have a couple of valuable lessons which they will put into practice.

“It has become a team culture to observe and learn then take the right steps, we have done that well with utmost consistency, to say the least. We knew what to do in this game.”

Moreover, he said their season was strewn with obstacles. “The main challenges in Botswana football is finance and once you don’t have funds you can’t run a productive team. We struggled with what we got and fortunately we had experienced and determined players who had a mission to accomplish.”

He added that the most important thing is to motivate the players and make sure they focus on the bigger picture which in this case is to fight for promotional playoffs at least.

“We are ready for everything that’s going to be thrown at us. We don’t plan specifically for a particular team but on our strengths and abilities. We don’t work on someone’s style of play because we believe in ourselves,” he said.

Mpungwa elaborated that finance is core for any institution to succeed and stay alive. “Teams from the north side of the country always lose players to teams in the south region because they offer them lucrative contracts that are not easy to reject.

“Some of the boys are enticed by the idea of living in the Capital City, where we mostly believe life is much better and opportunities are ample. As well, a player in the southern teams stands a better chance to be roped into the national team or spotted by scouts.”

On whether they will survive the elite league if they get promoted , he said:. “We will cross that bridge when we get there.”
