MISS EPIC BOTSWANA 2023 LAUNCHED

- BY IRENE SHONE

Twelve beautiful queens are scheduled to compete for the Miss Epic Botswana 2023 crown in November.

The pageant started last year in Botswana and it is a unique pageantry that focuses on enhancing culture and empowering the girl child.

Assistant coordinator of Miss Epic Botswana, Shathani Fred said Botswana is known for her diverse culture and richness in gender equality, and so this pageant is exactly about proving that women can survive in male dominated spaces.

“We wish to stop the trend that women are perceived not to be bold while men are always given first priority at everything. Through this pageant we want to sell Botswana culture to the world,” she explained.

The reigning Miss Epic Botswana, Katlego Lekgowe delivered well on her queenly duties as she motivated the contestants for this year’s competition. She encouraged them to believe in themselves and reminded them that there are always benefits that come with being a queen. She disregarded the misconceptions that pageantries are only associated with beauty, but said pageantries are set on confidence, being brainy and having the ability to be a mother in the community.

“Queens automatically become the voice for issues they want to address within the community, and queens are humble so do not let the fame of being a queen engulf you after being crowned. Ask God to carry you through,” said the beautiful confident queen.

Patron of the pageant, also producer of the Bagaka Ba Pele tv show, Kelemogile Ramasu congratulated the final contestants and encouraged them to believe in themselves. “Women should be courageous, voice out and walk the talk and do what they do with pride because they are just a blessing to the world,” he said.

He applauded Gaborone University College of Law (GUC) who are to sponsor the winner with a course of their choice, as a way of nurturing a girl child.

Director of the pageant, Tsaone Raditladi told Vibe that the launch paved a way for the grand finale to be held on November 11th. He said that the queens are currently preparing themselves and they had their cultural photoshoot this past weekend.
