Dance team performs well in SA
At the Inter Continental Dance and Battle Championship 2023
A talented team of local dancers this past weekend represented Botswana at the Inter Continental Dance and Battle Championship 2023 competition held in South Africa.
Global Dance Supreme (GDS) is an International Dance Organization based in South Africa established in 2018, and also the host of Inter-Continental Dance and Battles Championships. A dedicated team of local dancers therefore had an opportunity to participate at GDS, which is one of the largest dance communities in the southern hemisphere. This event showcases and reveals the true and real values of hip-hop and street dance culture. The three-day Dance Championship event started this past Friday till Sunday at Linder Auditorium, Parktown in Johannesburg, South Africa. A Dance Team from Botswana led by Prince One Phalalo sent a number of dancers to participate there on different categories where over 1 000 international top dancers also participated for the Inter-Continental Championships. Ndumiso Nyoni aka Apex and Lesley Letlole aka Brutal who represented Botswana on 2VS2 Krump dance emerged the victors of the competition as they got position one. Sky and Maya got position three on 2VS2 Afrostyles, while Kimberly Matheakgomo got position four in her singles category, 1VS1 Next Gen all styles. Phalalo said they are grateful for this opportunity and certain that this would help grow the dance space in Botswana by motivating other dancers that, they too can make it at international competitions. The crews that went to participate are New Moon and The Dance Space, and New Moon got position three in the adult division. Artistic Director at TNT, Tendai Christopher JR Mangiroza said that the entire trip was a miracle for their dance community. “We had been having issues but managed to send the team to compete on a last minute basis . Despite all the challenges faced, most of the team members managed to place in top positions. They all danced their hearts out and we thank God they are all safe and managed to do well despite all challenges faced,” he said.
