The Midweek Sun

A glance at numerous political voices this week

-

We have warned AP to tread with care when dealing with the UDC. Their leaders, as said by their erstwhile member Sedirwa Kgoroba, were looking to use the UDC as short cut to parliamentary positions. They dumped the BCP after all by-elections were won by the UDC. If BCP had won one of the by-elections, they would have stayed. Now there is trouble for them at the UDC. The constituencies they were promised by Boko are being contested for by BNF, BPP and lately BPF. They will definitely not get what they were promised. Boko was negotiating privately with Ndaba without the buy-in of other parties. Now we are here, where the AP cadres are frustrated with what might happen to their movement. They will regret choosing the UDC over the BCP. [KATLO KAONE]

Re sampe re ntse re tlhagisa gore UDC e e nang le Khama the former dictator ga e kake ya isa Opposition kana Botswana gope except divisions. Khama by far remains the worst and most divisive leader in the history of Botswana. Most Opposition leaders including Boko himself suffered under General Khama’s regime. Bringing him back to power like UDC is trying to do will be a political suicide that no sane Motswana would embrace. UDC is NOTHING even with Khama the former dictator and will still be NOTHING after losing 2024 elections with or without Madibela-Khama day dreamers and thugs. [TIKANE GAOPATWE]

I have seen many people tripping on themselves telling me to apologize to BCP. What do I apologize for? Do I apologize for pointing out that it was a mistake to have BCP in the UDC? Apologize for pointing out that BCP was not meant to be part of a coalition and their joining of UDC brought animosity, tension, toxicity and negative energy?

Apologize for pointing out that BCP have only two simple objectives: 1) Being the best opposition party in Botswana as a short term objective and 2) Taking power from BDP as BCP not in coalition? Apologize for pointing out that BCP didn’t work to grow UDC or to benefit UDC but to revive their dignity and to ensure they achieve their objective within UDC? To apologize that I pointed out that BCP members were not interested in working with other parties’ candidates within UDC and in some instances they we trafficking themselves to vote where their candidates were, or voted AP or BPF in other areas or even voted BDP in other areas avoiding to vote for BNF and BPP candidates?

Apologize for pointing out that BCP had a clear plan when they joined UDC and that they were focused, very hardworking and on a simple mission? Apologize that someone intelligent intercepted their plan?

You see we end up having dumb and useless people as political leaders because we don’t want to listen to the truth in politics. The facts above describe the BCP. It does not in anyway mean I hate BCP or what. I simply got closer and learnt about them. Even in 2016 I pointed out that BCP will not help UDC to win power but will ditch UDC when the time is right. They did that and no hard feelings from my side as I never pretended about anything. What is happening in UDC has nothing to do with what BCP said and why BCP left. UDC is simply stuck and is failing to take advantage of its growth and instead wasting everyone’s time on negotiations tables.

UDC should have quickly moved into a unified and consolidated organization the moment its brand started selling better. That would help to close out opportunists masquerading as opposition party leaders and have leaders directly elected by the masses through UDC structures. Primary elections and congress of UDC could do a lot in bringing quality leaders and mass support to UDC to take power.

The current situation just only gives the political party activists a blank cheque in parading their dumbs in insulting, character assassination and even conspiracy theories against each other but no value to UDC brand.

Pointing that out does not mean an individual is less UDC than those who keep quiet and pretend everything is well. It’s just a way of pointing out the blind spot and alerting the UDC pilot crew of the hidden icebergs. BPF was going to be helpful to UDC as an outside strategic partner. With BPF inside UDC we are not going to get synergies. We are simply pushing some votes to either BCP or BDP. It will start with those who joined BPF to stand for the elections and will be disappointed by constituencies and wards allocations. There are those who feel Khama is trying hard to push himself into a position of power with his people. We should be working out on strategies and plans on how to counter those. The simple strategy would have been UDC’s direct membership, UDC structures and primary elections for all . People would have learned to discuss and compromise.

From GC to Mabalane via Mochudi is about 60 km, tarred. From GC to Mabalane via Modipane is about 42 km, 21 km of which is a really bad gravel road. Ee Tautona o tlile mo gae.
