BOTESSA drills members on leadership skills
The Botswana Tertiary Student Sport Association (BOTESSA) recently hosted a successful leadership and safeguarding workshop in Gaborone. The workshop, which focused on improving leadership skills and developing best practices for student sports, was attended by representatives from BOTESSA’s member organizations. The facilitator, Tumelo Masalila, received positive feedback from the participants and expressed his hope that the workshop will have a significant impact on the future of student sports in Botswana.
The two-day workshop focused on training BOTESSA members on leadership skills and the importance of their influence on their students in their respective regions. Masalila’s presentation stressed the importance of being a good leader in sport and of positively influencing others. The workshop was interactive and engaging, and the participants had the opportunity to reflect on their own leadership skills and learn new ways to improve. Overall, the workshop was a valuable experience for all involved.
BOTESSA member affiliates were grateful to the executive committee for organizing such a timely and informative workshop, which they felt would help them prepare for the association’s upcoming annual general meeting. The affiliates agreed that they share a common goal of promoting excellence in sport, and that by working together they can achieve this goal. They recognized the importance of having a collective mindset and working towards a common objective.
The workshop included a section
on safeguarding in sport, which was met with great enthusiasm by the affiliates. They felt that safeguarding is often discussed but rarely practiced in reality, and that it is a topic that deserves more attention. The affiliates committed to promoting safeguarding in their regions and in the association as a whole, as they believe it is crucial to the success of BOTESSA. They also acknowledged that there have been incidents in sport that were not properly resolved, and they want to prevent this from happening in the future.
The training also included practical exercises that encouraged teamwork and planning, which the participants found very valuable. They stressed the importance of working together as a team in order to achieve success in sport leadership. They also said that they would take what they learned in the workshop and apply it to their everyday lives. Overall, they were very satisfied with the workshop and found it to be extremely beneficial.
The president of BOTESSA, Keorapetse Setlhare, addressed the member affiliates during the workshop, thanking them for taking the time to participate in the exercises. He emphasized the importance of practicing what they learned in order to improve the association. He encouraged them to use their new knowledge to help their students to achieve better results.
“I would like to encourage everyone to be equally engaged in promoting the goals of this association. After all, the success of sport is the success of our students, and we have a responsibility to work together for their benefit and for the betterment of sports in Botswana,” Setlhare noted.
