Notwane decry ‘terrible’ pitch

-

“The pitch was terrible, we couldn’t play the way we usually do.

UB Hawks had the advantage because they’re used to the pitch. A hard ground would have been better than this. This was not a suitable pitch for a match like this, they could have done better in preparing it during pre-season,” Setswe said.

According to the coach, it was disappointing to see the players playing so cautiously because of the risk of injury on an uneven pitch. However, he was pleased that the team had still managed to gain a point in their first match, and was optimistic about their future games.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw, with both goals scored in the first half. Bosa Mokgweetsi put UB Hawks ahead, but Notwane’s captain, Kudzanai Machedzani, equalized to ensure that the game ended in a draw.

When asked about their overall performance and their goals for the league, Setswe stated that they are determined to return to the premier league and understand that it will be a challenging season. As a result, their strategy is to take each game as it comes and give their best performance on the pitch.

Although the match between UB Hawks and Notwane was not an entertaining one, both teams fought hard and gave their best effort. For UB Hawks, it was their first match in the first division, and they did well to hold a more established team like Notwane to a draw.

Their head coach Alex Basimanebotlhe Malete was very proud of their performance and is looking forward to building on this in future matches.

“I am very happy with our team’s first performance. We wanted to control the ball, and we did. Of course, there are some things we would like to improve, but overall I am very happy with how we stuck to our identity and transitioned the ball well. We are looking forward to our next match against Extension Gunners, and we are going to work even harder to prepare,” Malete said.
