Gunners Triumphs in Debut
...A new dawn in lower league Lobatse Legends Extension Gunners Make Their Debut in National First Division South League
Lobatse legends, Extension Gunners finally made their long-awaited debut in the National First Division South league this past weekend, marking a historic moment after their relegation from the Botswana Football League last season. Despite facing challenges both on and off the pitch last season, Gunners have shown promising signs in the lower league, filling the Black Forest Arena at Mmankgodi to capacity.
Fans from across the country gathered to witness their team’s 1-0 victory against a stubborn Black Forest. The excitement extended beyond the football action, with the vibrant Guna Guna culture, pomp, and fanfare on full display. Traffic leading to the stadium came to a standstill as fans converged on the venue.
Following their triumphant arrival and victory over Magoleng, Gunners’ captain and Zebras legend, Ofentse Nato, expressed his thoughts: “We’ve always known that the National First Division League won’t be easy, especially in the South league, considering the strong competition. We came ready to fight, fully aware of the challenges facing our team.” Nato expressed gratitude for earning three crucial points and expressed confidence in their ability to perform even better moving forward.
When asked about their difficult victory, Nato credited their strong mentality, saying, “Our resilience paid off because we never gave in, even when exhaustion was setting in.” Nato highlighted the importance of their transition from the Premier League to a lower league, encouraging young players to play freely and make mistakes, as these errors provide valuable learning opportunities.
