This season however he has taken his game a step further and endeared his name in the folklore books of Jwaneng Galaxy.

His stunning strike past Ghanaian giant goal-minder, Richard Ofori, proved to be pivotal as ‘Lesagaripa la dinaledi’ went on to eliminate CAF champions of 1995, Orlando Pirates, from the competitions and advanced to the group stages, albeit through a penalty shoot-out after a 1 all draw second leg encounter at Orlando Stadium.

This past weekend, the Zimbabwean once again ascertained his pedigree as a man for the big occasion as he stunned Township Rollers and its legion of fans who thronged the Galaxy stadium. His 82ndscorcher was the only goal of the match in the encounter between the two.

“I was really happy but deep inside my heart

I knew I was going to score, it was like a dream come true [to score against Orlando Pirates], I try to always help the team and it feels good to score against these big teams. The biggest thing I do is to play for the badge put more effort and try to be consistent. I want to continue giving more assists and add more goals to help the team, I think every football player has dreams of having a better life one day because it’s not easy, it’s never easy but I’m happy here” Msendami responded when quizzed on what inspires him during high profile games.

Developed in Bulawayo by Flame Stars and Highlander during his time as a junior, the hard-running winger was promoted to the first team of Highlanders when he was 17 years old, playing for a whole season in the first team but was later loaned to the Division 1 side, Vumbachikwe FC in Gwanda.

“In Gwanda, I managed to get good game time, I went for 3 months, played 11 games and I managed to contribute 7 (seven) goals and 5 (five) assists, Highlanders did not waste time and quickly cut my loan deal short returning back to the club but only joining their division one side where I played the last 6 (six) games of the league and managed to score 4 (four) goals. I was then promoted to the first team, they had big plans for me for the coming season but after only three league games, Galaxy came calling and managed to convince me to join the club,” Msendami shared.

He also said his stay in Botswana has been good.

With Galaxy now in the CAF Champions league for the second time in just less than 10 years since their formation, Msendami highlighted that they are excited and looking forward to rubbing shoulders with some of Africa’s best football talents. He added that they are looking to find the right balance to compete in all fronts this season to once more land success at the club.

“We are competing in the CAF Champions league, so we are very, very focused, and we are trying by all means to balance the games and keep everyone happy and positive to keep us going and I believe we will do just that,” the 22-year-old concluded.
