MEGOKGO HIP HOP PROMOTES HIP HOP CULTURE

- BY IRENE SHONE

Megokgo Rap group was recently formed as an institution of like-minded individuals who aims at embracing the culture of Hiphop locally.

This collaboration comes as proof that ‘Collaboration is the new currency and Together we stand’ according to members of this group. It is a bubbly group made up of the renowned Hip Hop artistes including; Touch Motswak Motswak, Chubbito, Jay Dot and Konkrete. The quartet tells Vibe that their stage name ‘Megokgo’ has a lot to do with their music journey. “The name was previously used by most of the guys in our circle as a label of respect for someone who has earned their stripes with in the Hiphop community, and so we want to bring this vibe to life,” they said.

They reiterated that they want to stay relevant within the local Rap Nation that is still very much alive. To them, Hip Hop is a special genre of music that both the young and the old can associate with. However, their main worry is that, unfortunately the Hip Hop Nation now need to change their mindset and figure out ways to enterprise and now mobilise the followers of rap to help the ones making the rap to monetize their product.

Megokgo aspires to keep releasing dope and relevant music, pushing each other as individual entities and most importantly pushing young upcoming artists. Their take is that, there is a lot of potential to grow the movement of rap and Hiphop as a culture, and so they want to own this responsibility and change the hip hop culture altogether. “We have plans and targets that we have set for ourselves. Our aim and mission is to keep us sustainable and we hope that will basically feed into the longevity of how long we will keep doing what we do. Just like every business we try to come back to drawing board as often as possible to keep ourselves in check and see if we still aligned with the goals,” Megokgo told Vibe.
