Sibel Köse Trio from Turkiye to impress Jazz lovers

The Sibel Köse Trio from Turkiye promises nothing but an eventful night at Maitisong Theatre this coming week on Thursday.

This comes at the back of 100 years anniversar­y celebratio­ns of Turkey. This trio features some of Turkey’s prominent jazz artistes who are anticipate­d to give lovely performanc­es. The concert will also include perfomance­s by local jazz musicians to complete the Jazz night. These three of the most prominent jazz musicians and educators of Turkey include; Sibel Köse, Kaan Bıyıkoğlu, and Çağlayan Yıldız. These renowned musicians have been performing together for many years, and their live performanc­es reveal the special rapport and interplay that they developed through knowing each other for a long time.

Sibel Köse, is mainly self-taught musician who has emerged as Turkey’s top female jazz vocalist. Since 1987, she built her experience and knowledge singing alongside major jazz masters and further developed her craft participat­ing in internatio­nal jazz workshops, concerts and festivals. She was awarded the first prize in the Internatio­nal Competitio­n of Jazz Vocalists’ in Zamosc (Poland) in 1992.

Kaan Bıyıkoğlu started performing jazz in his early twenties, and holds master’s degrees in both cognitive science and classical piano performanc­e. He moved to the Netherland­s in 2006 to further his jazz education, and he studied jazz piano and harmony with Kris Goessens and Rob van Bavel, and compositio­n and orchestrat­ion with Ilja Reijngoud at the Rotterdam Conservato­rium.

He has participat­ed in numerous festivals, concerts, radio and television broadcasts, and album recordings in the Netherland­s, Belgium and Germany. Kaan Bıyıkoğlu returned back to Turkey in 2013, and has served on the faculty of several

Turkish conservato­ries since then.

Çağlayan Yıldız is also a profession­al guitar and bass player and studied in Bilkent University Jazz Department. This trio has in performed together severally in Turkey and they are excited to perform together in Botswana for the first time. They have performed in Turkey in 2019 at the Vientiane Jazz Festival in Laos, and concerts at Living RoomSherat­on Grande Sukhumvit (Bangkok/Thailand) and at the Turkish Embassy in Bandar Seri Begavan (Brunei).

The unique interplay of these three Turkish musicians will be witnessed through a rich repertory of jazz standards, including songs from the Great American Songbook by composers like George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Rodgers and Hart, and a variety of selected pieces by jazz masters such as Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, and Benny Golson.
