A RELIEF FOR MAGOSI As the win against Gunners boosts their morale and coffers
Mochudi Center Chiefs pulled off an impressive 4-1 victory against Extension Gunners in a Debswana First Division South match that was packed with fans and excitement. Not only did the win boost the team’s morale and league standings, but it also brought in a muchneeded financial windfall from the high ticket sales at the National Stadium in Gaborone.
Speaking after the match, Magosi head coach, Oupa Kowa, praised his players for putting aside the internal issues within the club and focusing on the game. He said he had a chat with the players before the match, asking them to forget about the club’s problems and give their all on the pitch. And that’s exactly what they did, putting on a stellar performance that ended in a 4-1 victory.
While Kowa acknowledged that there were internal issues within the club, he was unwilling to divulge any further details. However, it seems like the issues may have to do with the
players’ welfare and that he was doing his best to support them as a coach. He emphasized the importance of player well-being and the impact it can have on their performance, both on and off the pitch.
“Before the game, the players were not in the right frame of mind. I sat them down and had a heart-to-heart with them. I told them that Magosi is facing some internal issues that they are aware of and it’s affecting them. I told
them that it’s important that we leave those issues off the pitch and focus on what we can control - winning the game.
The three points were too important to lose because of distractions. And my players responded brilliantly, they showed a level of maturity and focus,” Kowa said. A source close to the club revealed that there have been ongoing issues with players not being paid for several months. They have reportedly been given small amounts of money as little as P500.00 to cover basic expenses such as toiletries, rent, and food.
The source stated that transportation has also been an issue, with players having to struggle to get to and from training and matches. The source further said that the players have been growing increasingly frustrated with the management’s inability to resolve these issues.
“The players were reportedly called in on Monday after their Extension Gunners Match and asked to submit their account details, so that they could be paid.
Although the exact amount they will receive is unknown, the players are said to be relieved that they will finally be compensated for their hard work and dedication to the team. It’s a small step in the right direction, but it’s not a permanent solution to the club’s financial problems,” the same source highlighted.
