The Botswana football transfer market is currently buzzing with activity as several notable moves have been confirmed in the opening days of the new year. Orapa United, Tafic, Jwaneng Galaxy, and Gaborone United have been at the forefront of the action, reshaping their squads as they aim for success in the upcoming fixtures.

Orapa United has secured the services of Resaobaka Thatanyane from Jwaneng Galaxy on a 1-year deal. The move comes after a prolonged pursuit, with Orapa United expressing interest in the player as far back as last year in the June transfer window. Thatanyane’s arrival at Orapa United adds depth and versatility to the squad, and the club is optimistic about the impact he will make during his tenure. Tafic has made a significant double capture of Ronny Leagetse and Onkabetse Makgantai. Tafic has been busy in the transfer market, announcing two significant acquisitions. Ronny Leagetse, formerly with Eleven Angels, has joined the squad to beef up their attacking options with Onkabetse Makgantai coming in from Gaborone United and hoping to revive his ailing career. On the other hand, Gaborone United has also secured the services of Albert Nyamutsaka, who arrives from Golden Eagles of Zimbabwe Division 1. Nyamutsaka has signed a 2-and-ahalf-year deal, the striker is expected to play crucial roles in Gaborone United’s campaign as they have lost their marksman in Makgantai. In a surprising development, Orapa United has officially parted ways with Thabo Metlhayotlhe. Negotiations to terminate his contract had been ongoing since the last game, and the decision was finalized recently. Metlhayotlhe, who joined the Ostriches in August 2023, is the second player to exit the club following Thato Seagateng. It remains to be seen which team the players will join in the coming days since they are free agents. In an exclusive revelation, it has been confirmed that Tlamelo Kolagano has become a free agent, with his contract at Orapa United having expired on New Year’s Eve. Despite being offered a new deal, Kolagano has set his sights on a move to Jwaneng Galaxy. The player is expected to join Galaxy this week, serving as a direct replacement for Mangolo, who recently moved to Tanzania. Kolagano’s decision is attributed to his alignment with the ongoing project at Jwaneng Galaxy. Thero Setsile is among the players that have left Gaborone United this window. In a confirmed move, Thero Setsile left the Money Machine. Setsile is set to rejoin Jwaneng Galaxy this week, adding further depth to Galaxy’s squad. His departure marks a new chapter for the player, who has won multiple titles with Gaborone United. As these transfers unfold, the dynamics of the Botswana football landscape are shifting. Fans eagerly anticipate the impact these players will make at their new clubs, and the upcoming fixtures promise excitement as the teams integrate their new signings into their respective setups. The 2024 season is shaping up to be a thrilling chapter in Botswana football, with the transfer market providing plenty of talking points.
