BOBA OVERCOMES FIRST INTERCLUB TOURNEY
The Botswana Boxing Association (BoBA) is proud that the first interclub tournament of the year, hosted by Diamond Boxing Club at Protea Hotel at CBD over the weekend, was a resounding success. The outdoor setup was lovely and well-attended by business people from the mall and boxing community. The association believes that the event was a great start to the year and looks forward to many more such tournaments.
The tournament saw participation from all BoBA affiliate clubs across the country, attracting 82 boxers including women, resulting in a total of 37 bouts and 8 walkovers. The highlight of the tournament was the participation of 6 women boxers, whose performances were nothing short of amazing. The standard of the tournament was very high, on par with national championships. The crowd was very engaged, with many
spectators even watching from outside the venue, at Masa restaurants.
The tournament’s organizers, Diamond Boxing Club, put a lot of effort into making sure that the setup was outstanding. They were extremely happy to have pulled it off successfully, especially since it was their first time hosting an interclub boxing tournament.
They expressed their gratitude to Protea Hotel for partnering with them and making the event possible, and they believe that the collaboration will bring a positive image to the Botswana Boxing Association. As a club, they are proud of their contribution and look forward to hosting more tournaments like this one in the future.
The Botswana Boxing Association spokesperson, Gaone Motshwanaesi, stated that the association is happy with how the first interclub tournament turned out and believes that it exceeded expectations. He stated that the clubs and boxers were well-prepared and that everything ran smoothly, which is a positive sign for the future of the sport. She said that the association is committed to taking the sport to new heights this year.
According to Motshwanaesi, the association is very pleased with the amazing set-up done by the host club and its partners, Protea Hotel. She stated that the exposure was very beneficial, and that corporate entities in the CBD area were able to see the impact that boxing can have. She believes that this will help the association attract more sponsors and partners, which will ultimately help to improve the standards of boxing and promote the next generation of young boxers.
“Our main mandate is to bring boxing to the people, and the exposure from this tournament is beneficial in the long run. We are grateful to our affiliates for their hard work and support, as it contributes to the overall success of the association. If the standards of our interclub tournaments improve, it will have a positive impact on the national team, and that is our ultimate goal. We want to continue working together to grow the sport,” she said.
