- BY IRENE SHONE

Gappy Roberts is a force to reckon with. He recently made waves as an Afrobeat and Soul Artist based in the United Kingdom, Southampton.

He wrapped the year 2023 in style as he won the ‘Best Afrobeat’ award at The Beacon Urban Music Awards 2023 held in Poole.

Before settling in the UK in 2021 he was nominated three times under Best RnB awards at the Botswana Music awards in 2017, 2018, and 2019 respectively.

The Mahalapye born and raised lad’s influence in music and excellence is no accident, as he comes from a family of renowned musicians, including; the Queen of Jazz Punah Gabasiane and the My Star Talent show Winner 2011 Bianca Gabasiane.

An exciting moment for the talented Gappy is when he appeared on BBC News last year as he received the ‘Best Afrobeat award’ live on television. He also played on BBC Radio Solent, and got interviewed on BBC Radio London and Unity Live Radio Southampton.

He is happy to share with Vibe that “during the year 2023, the ‘Gappy Roberts’ brand grew immensely in the South East of the Uk. He has now become a well known name in the South East part of the UK and hosts events as well as one-man shows.

He was also the winner of the ‘Covid 19 Music competition’ hosted by FNBB and Yarona Fm where he won P25 000.

“I was also an esteemed judge on National Tv Show ‘My Star’ from 2018 till 2020,” he shared.

Currently, he is working on his second album titled ‘Before I made it.’ He therefore looks forward to dropping his first single from the album on Valentines Day.

The Single is dubbed ‘Sthandwa Same’ and he features another international local performer, William Lst KRM. On February 2nd, he is expected to host a single launch at Deluxe One Oxford.
