JOB SEEKER’S PLUG: Recruitment expert offers advice to unemployed

- BY PHEMELO RAMASU

Times have changed and your Curriculum Vitae (CV) must adapt to present times.

According to Segofalang NagafelaBibiza of Seggo Consultancy & Recruitment, one of the keys to getting a dream job is to eliminate unnecessary information including; gender, religion, physical address, marital status, as well as colour from a CV.

She explains that ATS (Applicant Tracking System) does not recognise art work unless one’s work involves that. Her advice comes as some might be looking for their dream job or any job that might put food on the table at the start of the year.

An expert in her chosen field, she advises that you are allowed to have a general CV, but to always remember to tweak it for every job that you apply for so that it becomes customised. Weeks into the new year, this is one of her busiest times of the year, with contracts ending and others starting.

Nagafela-Bibiza, or Seggo as she is popularly called, has always had a passion for helping people to secure employment. She was inspired by what she saw women going through in marriages and relationships while working as a mental health activist.

The lack of financial independence meant that the women suffered at the hands of those who held the purse strings in the household.

Sometime in 2021, she started off by assisting those in need to find low paying jobs, and at that time, she was just volunteering. She enjoyed receiving feedback from her clients, and hearing how they have moved on from an abusive relationship, and that they can now fend for themselves through the small jobs that they got.

“I enjoyed getting a call or an inbox from someone telling me that they finally moved out of an abusive relationship because they can now fend for themselves through the small job I got them. My passion grew from there, knowing that a family’s life can change through my efforts,” she explains.

This fuelled her passion further, and she worked hard to find more companies to hire employees from them. It was during that transition that she observed that jobs were not enough in the country, which is how they expanded and looked outside the country to nail international partnerships.

Seggo Consultancy & Recruitment, provides a number of services which include recruiting services, training, team building, HR policies, as well as

performance management and even strategy formulation for companies. She also provides individual services that include CV revamps, cover letter and interview preparation.

The latter is an incentive for those who revamped their CVs with them, and are in the company’s database. Some companies prefer to shorten the recruitment process hence they look for possible candidates from the company. This means that those who qualify, go directly into interviews.

Incredibly, she also has partnerships with international organisations, including a college in Ireland that offers English, but also assists those who are self-sponsoring to study there and work part time until they complete their studies. She recently secured another partnership with a recruiting agency in the UK, which recruits for UK and USA. Currently, she is processing for health professionals who wish to go to the UK.

“Currently, we have 100+ international health positions to find and few remote software designers, and we are expecting more,” she explains.

Judging by the reviews on the company’s social media pages, she has found a winning formula, with her clients securing those most important interviews, and offer letters. One of her biggest challenges is that people think that she is responsible for job creation. “It belongs to government and other entities. Unemployment rate is really bad; hence we are trying to look for opportunities outside. We have a lot of educated people roaming the streets,” she says.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences majoring in Public Administration & Sociology from the University of Botswana. She has also completed trainings on Balanced Score Card, Smart Work Ethics, Trainer of Trainers, Assessor, Competency Framework and Skills Audit.
