Former President Khama accused of caring more about animals than people

Former president Ian Khama’s recent post on poaching attracted the following reactions this week:

- [PORTIA MAGODI]

Wildlife brings billions into our GDP thus securing a lot of people’s future. It’s regrettable for human life loss so those isolated incidents are bound to happen especially in areas prone to human/ wildlife conflict. We cannot look the other side when poachers decimate wildlife [LESOLE MAOTO][

It looks like you’re only concerned when an animal dies but when our people are killed by wildlife you look the other way. You should exercise the same enthusiasm when the elephants kill humans, because those humans are the real custodians of wildlife. Our people (not govt) are the real conservationists, the rest are just protecting their business interests. [TLHALEFANG

CHARLES]

Where do you get those pictures so that we report to the relevant authorities coz it’s difficult for you to report them

[KAIZER KGOMOTSO]

Now you are alerting them sir, they won’t return there, you could have tipped the right authority sir. [EMMANUEL

RAMOLALA]

Without any arrests these poachers will continue to return again and again as they have been doing repeatedly for the past four months! One has to get the message from the Context for the former President has been on self-imposed exile for more than two years now and his focus is on the poachers and their arrests. The livelihoods of Batswana is not his priority, however the government of the day and the visionary leadership of Sisboy will take care no matter how much information you get from your Allies, the issue of poaching will be the thing of the past. All the Law enforcement agencies are ready to counter the situation. Amen [MATTHEWS NAKEDI]

Wow, General! And you are always the first to know where poaching happened and even share pictures. You really are genius General. Always alert and with ears to the ground. I remember even President Masisi once expressed his marvel at how you are always the first and sometimes the only one to know where killing of animals happened with pictures. I beg you use your intelligence to help our clueless wildlife officers who despite their wide patrols they never get to see these things the way you do. Sometimes help them by letting them be the first to know where the poaching happened rather than bring it to Facebook and alert the poachers who will then go into hiding. We need a man like you to help us with these animals.

This very weekend you are posting this, a wildlife officer was buried after an attack by one of the animals. With your skill of knowing where poaching happens, such a life would have been saved. And it is a pity no one is speaking for the poor wildlife officer, these animals are lucky to have you as their protector. As for the officers, it’s every man for himself.

Well done General for showing so much care about our animals. Condolences too, to the family of the fallen wildlife officer who was taking care of these animals but in his tragic case, was fighting to protect human life against them. Cheers General [TSHEPANG MOOKETSANE]

We don’t trust anyone these days, even you Sir you might be a suspect. You know just too much; moeladilo tsa BW thoko thata. For once be positive, we can manage without you. [MOSES BABUSI]

Funny world indeed. God created us the humans to be in control of all other creatures but some of you the humans think you know better, we all have the rights of benefit from those wildlife. Stop acting so special than others.

These wildlife sometimes kill our people and you so called the conservationists do nothing, not even compensation to the families of the deceased, they destroy our food crops; do you guys pay? [OKOT PA OCHAN]

Tswang fela mo go Kgosikgolo. Ga lo tlhaloganye eng? Kana bothata ke gore Kgosikgolo o na le di lodge in the delta le ko bo Boteti kwa ko go nang le diphologolo. [POLOKO MOAGI]

Fighting poaching Mr President Sir is a collective effort from all Citizens and l know you might want to pin this on politics, but l’m of the view that if each and every of us does not come to play, combating poaching might be a mammoth task. Is the controversial shoot to kill still hugely In practice? [KUZIVA MURAPA]

How do you come to know about these killings while you are in Stellenbosch? Whoever gave you that information is the one who did it or is the same person who is failing to report to the relevant person. [THEMBANI

NTEYATHEI]

You were there President before, poachers were there. Now you want to be smarter than someone. O bua ka diphologolo tse di bolaiwang ga o bui ka batho ba ba bolawang ke diphologolo mme wa re o ineetse mo Moreneng.

[HARRISON MODISE]

[MONYATSI DUKE]
