ORAPA UNITED HUNTS FOR LOST GLORY

- BY NALEDI LEMOGANG

Orapa United has a new Head Coach, Gadimang Tiiso, who is determined to bring the team back to its former glory. He believes that there is a lot of work to be done to get the team back to its former level of success. This comes after a 0-0 draw with Holy Ghost Fc in Gaborone this past weekend, which was the first match under the new head coach.

The Ostriches, as they are affectionately known, has only won three matches, lost five matches, and drawn five in 13 games this season, sitting on position 8 with 14 points. This is not the usual position for the team at this stage in the league, and it seems like they will struggle to return to the top of the table. In the recent game against Holy Ghost, they played coldly and didn’t create many goal scoring chances. Tiiso has admitted that there is a lot of work to be done with the team, given that they have lost some key players and changed their technical team. He acknowledged that some of the new players have premier league fright, but that this is a process they will work on.“It’s no secret that this is a very challenging job, and Orapa United is a big club with high expectations. We’re not in our usual position, but we’re working hard to improve as a team. We need to make the most of the players we have right now, and we’re confident that we’re heading in the right direction. Even though we lost two points in the last match, we started with a point and a clean sheet,” Tiiso said. He said that they need to work on their attacking play, including their composure, movement, and finishing, as they are defensively solid. He believes that they are on the right track, and that building a structure to support their forwards will help them score more goals.“There are no shortcuts in football, and we need to do more repetitions for our new players to adjust and take the team to a higher position. We are coming from a string of losses, and the break has given us some time to regroup. I’m happy with the team, and I’m confident that the next game will show a changed team,” he noted. Commenting on the team’s performance against Holy Ghost over the weekend, he said that they travelled to the game with the intention of getting three points, but it didn’t go as planned. However, he remained positive and said that they will continue to work as a team and improve in the future.“We played a game of two halves. The first half was not our best performance, and we gave Holy Ghost too much room to play. In the second half, we came back as a better team.

We could have scored three goals, but our finishing let us down. We have taken note of both the positives and negatives from the game, and we will work on improving our finishing so that we can start getting wins,” Tiiso stated.
