BOYCOTT DISRUPTS FOOTBALL FLAIR

- BY NALEDI LEMOGANG

The suspension of Botswana Football League matches, due to the conflict between the BFL shareholder/clubs and the disputed Chairman Nicholas Zakhem, has had a significant impact on the performance of the league’s teams. Statistics show that the goal scoring rate has dropped, indicating that the players struggled to get back into their rhythm after the long break.

According to some of the league’s coaches, the one-month break since the last matches on December 22nd has affected the teams’ performances and may impact the results of the remaining games. Before the break, the teams were scoring an average of 22 goals per game. However, in the most recent matches after the break, they only managed to score a total of 10 goals. In the match between Masitaoka and Police XI, there were only 5 goals scored, and other matches had even fewer goals. This is a significant drop in scoring rate, and teams are not playing at their usual level. In fact, it’s as if the break has caused them to lose all their momentum, and are starting from scratch. According to Holy Ghost FC Head Coach Reuben Njavera, the long break had a negative impact on the players’ performance. He said that they lost the momentum they had before the break, and they will now have to work extra hard to get back to where they were. He also mentioned that the break was too long, and that it disrupted the players’ focus. “It’s been challenging for our players, because the break was so long. They lost their form, and it’s been hard to get it back. But the players are trying their best, and I’m confident they will regain their form soon. It’s clear that the break was not beneficial for their performances, but we will work hard to get them back to where they were. We are committed to improving the players’ form for the team to improve its positioning on the log,” Njavera stated. The
