RAPED AND ROBBED Intruder sexually violates woman and steals her household items

- BY NEO KOLANTSHO

A65-year-old woman of Madimo ward, Mabalane village, in the Kgatleng District woke up in the early hours of Monday to an intruder standing inside her house and demanding to have sex with her.

Confused and scared at the same time, the woman rubbed off the sleep from her eyes trying to understand what was happening but the man walked towards her and aggressively demanded that she takes off her clothes.

“Undress, I want to have sex with you,” the man allegedly ordered her.

Fearing that the man might kill her as he was holding a sharp knife and seemingly ready to attack, the woman obliged and he went on to please himself without the use of a condom.

Once done, the unknown man stole her television set, radio and a phone and then fled the scene.

Confirming investigating the matter, Mmathubudikwane Police station commander, Superintendent Mmoloki Mogale said the victim told them that the incident happened around 0300hrs.

“We are still investigating. We do not know how the perpetrator was able to gain entry into the house as there are no signs of forced entry. The victim has told us that she was sleeping in the living room all alone and was awoken by a man standing in the middle of the room.

“She has not been able to identify the man as he was wearing a hat.

However, she could tell he was a middle aged Motswana because he communicated with her fluently in Setswana,” Mogale said.

The woman had returned from a funeral in Mahalapye the previous day and was exhausted hence her sleeping in the living room. Her child, whom she lives with was not in. By Tuesday afternoon this week, the police had not made much progress in hunting down the alleged abuser.

The Police boss advise members of the community to always ensure that they close windows and lock doors before retiring to bed.

Where possible, elderly people should not be left alone as criminals take advantage of their old age knowing they are forgetful and defenceless.
