Gappy Roberts, William Last collaborate on Valentine song, ‘Sthandwa same’

- BY IRENE SHONE

‘Sthandwa same’ is a brand new Afrobeat love single by Gappy Roberts featuring William Last, as a special dedication for Valentine’s Day.

This song actually epitomises what it means to be in love. Gappy told Vibe that it points out that no matter what, a loving man will never see flaws with the girl that he loves – that is, her ‘perfect imperfections’ - and will be in love with her no matter what.

“No matter what happens, how she is feeling or what she doing, he will always be there and always see her in the best possible light,” he explained. Gappy highlighted that the opening lines of the song - “Please open Your Heart, Let me Be your Man, We can Tie a Knot” - express the wish of this loving gentleman to marry his sweetheart and start a family. This song was inspired by Gappy’s life as he appreciated his wife “Trish Gabasiane” and the love and experiences they share together.

Asked what motivated him to collaborate with William Last, he said that as a conservative and family oriented person, a trait he saw in William Last on social media, he realised that they have similar interests because William Last’s love for his daughter behind the scenes is just unmatched.

“I needed something like that for this specific song. The title of the song, ‘Sthandwa same’ means ‘My Love’ and it could be an expression of love for your child, parent, partner or friend and I needed him to express that genuinely in our song, which he did,” he said.

The song was produced to mainly remind people about the warmth of love, and for people to have something new to share on Valentine’s Day. Gappy said that the feedback they have received from the snippet that has been released is extremely amazing.

It is poised to play on BBC London, Solent Introducing radio, Yarona Fm and Gabs FM on the release date, this Wednesday of February 14th.
