Nicole Martinez’s Valentine’s offering

- BY IRENE SHONE

RnB musician, Nicole Martinez has just released a brand new Valentine’s Day offering - ‘Lerato Phologolo.’

The energetic musician never ceases to amaze with her Tswana-inspired songs meant to mend the heart. ‘Lerato Phologolo’ literally translates to ‘love is a beast/animal,’ suggesting that it is something that cannot be controlled.

“The song is about love and simply denotes how love is unpredictable. Love is a beautiful emotion but it is very challenging at times and yet this does not stop us from embracing it,” she said.

Martinez told Vibe that the song reminds people to never lose hope in life but remain loving. She believes that anything in life that is done with love bears beautiful fruits, hence the song encourages people to choose love over hatred.

“This song was inspired by one of the skits done by Kennedy Thal. I wrote it immediately after watching one of his videos,” she said.

When the creative Kennedy shares these comedy-like skits in which he acts about different life challenges and everyday life encounters, Martinez watches with a mindful eye to learn something out of it.

“I must say, I’m a number one fan of his, and I love watching his videos a lot because they just help me to think outside the box and become more creative when it comes to writing my music in our mother language,” she explained.

Her aim is to one day be nominated and win at international awards such as the Grammys, BET and Britz Awards just to mention but a few.

The song was recorded, mixed and mastered at Bang! Gae Studio by Nephew and it was produced by Originar BW. Like most of Martinez’s songs, this one also boasts that sweet melody and carries that uniqueness of local RnB culture.

The song will be released as a visualizer video and premiered on her YouTube channel NICOLE MARTINEZ BW.
