TLHOGO YA PODI: Maxy KhoiSan sings about moral decay

- BY IRENE SHONE

The legendary Maxy KhoiSan, also known as Mmagauta, last week released her brand new single, with Chambers Musiq, dubbed, ‘Tlhogo ya podi,’ a rich Tswana lyrical song.

She told Vibe that as a Tswana Traditional musician, it is part of her norm to shift everything into order, where it is possible. She believes that she was not just given a golden voice to entertain people but to also share relevant messages through song, something that she is passionate about.

The ‘Tlhogo ya podi’ single was recorded to address the social ills associated with the youth dating older people for gain rather than pure love.

“The song talks about the social ills that we see happening in our society, where young people date or marry older people for money, material gain, security or pleasure. We see both young males and females turning to sugar mummies or sugar daddies or blessers, and even becoming ‘Ben 10s,’ side chicks, call girls or call boys, commercial sex workers or strippers just for money, status and pleasure to maintain their lifestyles of today,” she shared.

The song also speaks to men that are broke and don’t have anything to put on the table while in a relationship. It goes on to discuss how other men struggle and have weak erections, indirectly leading to cheating and immoral lifestyles.

“This results in people searching for more sexual partners to satisfy their pleasures and never care about age, which makes Botswana a one big bedroom and a total Sodom and Gomorrah before the eyes of God and Ancestors. This is forbidden by our beliefs, religion and culture,” she said.

The song has started enjoying airplay on radio stations, premiering on RB 2 and Duma FM last week Tuesday.

It is available on all Digital Stores and for streaming and downloads.
