ROMANTIC VIEW IN THE WILD FROM THE LOVE NESTS OF XIGERA

- BY IRENE SHONE

One of the best Safari camps in the world, Xigera Safari Lodge, genuinely believes in customization and the place is impeccably decorated with exclusive signature designs and artwork.

There are two exceptional nest lounges at the place, named the Behd and Fallen Nest loungers. Both of them were created by Porky Hefer, an acclaimed South African designer. The Behd was woven from kooboo cane by local artisans. Hefer’s work is designed to preserve traditional African craftsmanship and make it relevant for a new audience. This Behd was originally made in 2016, and was later adapted for Xigera to reference the African Fish Eagle that is commonly seen among the Delta’s waterways. Guests at Xigera are fond of this stylish Behd which is often used for relaxing and of course as a photo booth station for those who appreciate taking pictures. The historical significance of these loungers is that they were designed by one of Africa’s most internationally renowned designers. Hefer has held solo shows of this work in London, New York and Melbourne.

The beautiful Fallen Nest Loungers at Xigera are just a perfect site for lovers over a honeymoon or a romantic vacation. They resemble a love nest. These nests are the result of Hefer’s in-depth study of the weaver bird’s nest-building skills. He made them relevant for a human audience. It resembles nests that have fallen to the ground. These loungers offer guests a cradled vantage point from which to take in the view of the amazing place that Xigera Safari Lodge is. During flooding times, these are some of the best spots to just relax and enjoy the view of the beautiful nature-suited place as water flows and animals pass by.
