NPC Engages Batswana through roadshows
In Hot Pursuit of a People’s Plan ‘One BW, One Vision, One Plan, #yame,
The National Planning Commission (NPC) is scheduled to undertake roadshows to allow face-to-face interactions with various stakeholders in order to help them understand its mandate and how they can play a role in achieving Vision 2036.
Assistant Commissioner GeneralAdvocacy and Communications, Kushatha Modiakgotla told the media this week that the roadshows will solicit information from the public on the development of National Development Plan (NDP 12) and what they would like to see in terms of developments in their areas.
“People will have an opportunity to be part of the development of the NDP 12. This will ensure a people’s plan,” she said.
The Commission will also introduce an NDP 12 email address for people to share wish lists of what they would want to see in the upcoming plan. Other objectives of the roadshows are to create brand awareness on the NPC mandate as a new entity
of Government. It will allow for public sensitisation on Vision 2036 and its imperatives including, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs, Agenda 2063, National Transformation Strategy and the Transitional National Development Plan. The roadshow, dubbed ‘One BW, One Vision, One Plan, #yame,’ will begin next week in Bobonong on February 26, Semolale and Gobojango on February 27, Sefophe and Mmadinare on February 28, Selibe Phikwe on February 29 and Tonota on March 1. Other places will follow at a later stage, as the plan is to reach as many parts of Botswana as possible. Modiakgotla added that the campaign logo is deliberate in promoting One Botswana that includes all national stakeholders, public, private and development partners collaborating to achieve prosperity for all.
One Vision on the other hand talks of a country with a Vision named 2036 that seeks to achieve prosperity for all at individual, community and country level. Lastly One Plan entails an NDP that offers a long term perspective that
defines how the desired destination in Vision 2036 will be achieved, as well as the recently approved National Transformation Strategy that identifies the different sectors needed to deliver the Vision.
“All of these three aspects can only unify us in the pursuit of growth and prosperity for all,” she said, adding that the hashtag #yame, is an individual call to love “our country and country men, to have a role in the implementation of the Vision and the developmental agendas set forth.”
The Commission was established through the public sector rationalisation exercise of 2022, under the Office of the President. It incorporates functions from the then National Strategy Office, the Government Implementation Coordination Office, Vision 2036 Coordinating Agency and planning function from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development. Its mandate is to provide leadership in national strategy development, planning, implementation coordination and performance monitoring and evaluation.
