HEALTH THRESHOLD? - Cont’d

-

Have you ever wondered about the link between the breath and our emotions? Have you ever wondered if at all there is a link, so what? Have you ever wondered why your breath goes very fast when you are angry, and with the same breath, when you deliberately take it long and deep, you get swept by a wave of calmness, of peace?

Breath is the one thing that is in the present moment, because the moment we lose it, we become history. Breath in the past doesn’t serve us at all, breath in the future is pointless because you may not live to experience it. The only sure thing is breath now, in the present moment. Therefore when we learn to work more with the breath, we enrich our present moment. In Yoga, we learn priceless, timeless breathing techniques that elevates the quality of our present moment.

When the present moment is enriched, our past no longer stays to haunt us. It just becomes a faded memory if at all, and any emotions of anger, hatred, regret, guilt, unforgiveness fizzles off, literally. You become lighter and natural. All these mentioned emotions are responsible for our ill health, and winning over these emotions is the roadmap to good health. Sometimes there’s total lack of awareness about the gravity of these negative emotions, and on our well-being. Sometimes even when we know, we struggle to rid ourselves of them. The breath-work we learn in Yoga is the tool at our disposal to rid ourselves of these negative emotions.

When the present moment is enriched, we no longer get stuck in the future of fear, anxiety, worry. An enriched present moment allows us to have a clear vision and plan for the future, but not get stuck there.

Sometimes these emotions linked to the future may emanate from positive events, that cause us to get consumed by the fear of the unknown. For example, planning a wedding, transfer to another country, receiving unexpected sums of money, etc.

These examples, even though they are positive developments in one’s life, they raise emotions that cause an imbalance in our body, leading to ill-health. Again the breath-work we learn in Yoga is a tool to balance our bogy system.

An enriched present moment presents us with the healthiest all-time high, that automatically increases our “health threshold”.
